Booting Up Problem

This just started happening. When I boot up, I normally see my desktop,
then a box that tells me that McAfee is protecting, etc. Now, I get my
desktop, but the cursor has the hour glass beside it and I can't do
anything. I can move the cursor around, but clicking on an icon does
nothing. Ctrl Alt & Del shows nothing. After I re-start using the power
button on the computer 3 or 4 times, it works until the next restart.
Thoughts?
Thanks a lot.

What did you "just do" before this "just started" happening ? i.e. Did you
just install software, if so what ?

regards, Richard

......I ask because you mentioned McaFee software, which is designed to NOT
coexist with almost any other application software, and to only work without
causing problems on computers that contain absolutely NO software other than
the Windows Platform and itself ! :-)

Richard,
I did download the latest critical patch earlier. SP1-KB8241451. Think
that's it? I didn't do anything else physical to the computer.
B.

SP1 will have automatically created a restore point before installing the
updates, you could try dropping back to that.

Thanks. I thought I would do that if I still had the problem tomorrow. A few
months ago, I downloaded updates to my old comp. with W98SE and when I
restarted, my hard drives were wiped clean. Now I only download Critical
Updates, which this was supposed to be. Just looked at your recent reply to
Lou. It's past 11:30 in sunny, dark, CA. right now. {Yesterday???}.
Appreciate your help no matter what day it is!
Rich.
