booting problem

Recently my PC has started to refuse to boot.
It gets as far as a screen that shows me the options to start in 3 different
types of safe mode or last know good or normally.
When I try any of these it goes to a screen black with a grey band, and
hangs there.
I have tried another PC with my hard drive and the same occurs, however I
have also tried another hard-drive in my PC with newly installed OS and the
same occurs.
Does anyone have any ideas, I have reset the bios and removed the battery
and no luck I have tried to flash the bios as well but still no luck.
I really would prefer not to have to buy another motherboard.

Thanks in advance..

It could be a graphics adaptor problem or driver conflict. Try it with a
basic PCI graphics card.

It's unlikely the HD would boot another PC with the previous PCs drivers
installed, too many driver/hardware conflicts.

It does appear strange that it just suddenly happened? you sure you haven't
installed anything or picked up something from the net?

Flashing the MB BIOS never seems a good idea unless trying to upgrade for
new hardware etc the original firmware wasn't capable of running.
