Booting is taking longer time

My windows XP professionla machin, when the machin boots,once the login prompt I put my password, It takes a long time to opens to the desk top. it is taking at least 2minits to the desk top to be come up. during this time I can see the hour glass on the sereen, that is all. I removed most all of the prgrams from the startup. I have Mcafee as my virus scan
