Booting into XP

After re-installing XP on a new HD, each time I boot up and pass the POST
test, I get a black screen with white text essentially asking me do I want
to boot into Home Edition or Professional version. I never indicated during
installation anything about the professional version. It will wait 30 sec
and boot into the one highlighted (Home) but it is just an unnecessary task
I have to wait around for instead of doing something else. Anyone have any
info on this, like how to eliminate the need to do it?

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then read similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

did you install XP Pro on a computer that already had XP Home?
looks like it.

so now you can boot into either OS!!
which OS do you wan to boot by"Default"?

The 30 sec. gives yuo time to decide.
What do you want to eliminate?
only the waititng period?

why do you think it's the Second entry?
and is invalid?

OP doesn't say whether or not can boot to other XP!!

Now you're starting to get the picture. ;)

Go to Start | Run. Type in msconfig, click Ok. On the boot.ini tab
click the button "Check all boot paths". If one is invalid it will
offer to remove it. Let it do so. Reboot. See if that resolves the issue.
