Booting directly into Windows XP Home

Lee Lord

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 with XP installed. I've been booting up
directly to windows until I recently installed Microsoft .NET Framework
version 1.1. Now when I boot I get the Welcome Screen where I have to
choose my name to finish signing on. When going to "User Accounts" -
"Changing the way users log on and off" and unchecking "Use the Welcome
Screen" it reverts back to the normal XP sign-in asking for user name
and password. How do I go back to where it was before installing "Net
Framework where I can boot directly into Windows XP? Is there a value
in the registry I can change?

Thanks so much!

Hi Lee,

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.
