I turned my computer off the other night but next day when i tried to boot
up the screen just staid blank I tried to use the windows xp startup cd but
when it started up it said system initialising then nothing else happened.
Can someone help please.

The description is very vague. Its impossible to give a solution with
any information. When you mean blank, does it happens after it loads
the BIOS or after you login with your username ?

Who is the manufacturer of the computer ? Did you install any new
device or driver before you shutdown the computer ? Let us know these
details..

Try to Press F* on Restart to get to the Boot Up options and either select:
Safe Mode
Or
Last Good known Config that worked.

Do you hear a spin or any move from the HDD, it may be died!.
If you are able to log into safe mode then you may have a bad Video Card.
HTH.

The screen remains blank when i switch the computer on. Its a packard bell
computer 2 years old. i never loaded any device drivers on it. As i said when
i boot up with windows cd disc it says on the screen system initialising the
secons later the screen stays blank again.

I heard a spin from the hdd but it stopped after about 10 to 20 secon

You have hardware failure. This has nothing to do with Windows. Based on
your posts, take the machine to a computer repair shop for diagnosis,
etc. Or, if the computer is new and still under warranty, call the
computer mftr.'s tech support.

the monitor stays on but just a blank screen. The light stays green

Hi Dessie,
Can you Boot to safe Mode by tapping the F8 on Restart and select Safe Mode?.
You could be having a bad Video card, until you try the safe Mode or the
Last Known configuration , we cannot just guess.
