Boot Up

When I boot up my PC all I get is a few beeps, a double beep (which is double
toned, high then low in pitch) nothing else happens after that, no monitor,
no Windows. Obviously this Compaq Presario 6000 has a major hardware issue?

Now if it were Ram I'd have a blue screen, so that is ruled out.

I have one by one unplugged and plugeed in all of the floppy drives.
I have unplugged and plugged all cables and connectors to and from the
motherboard.
The Motherboard/Video card is integrated.

Any suggestions welcomed, besides "Get a new PC"

Thanks all!!

Check the mobo manual for the meaning of the beep codes.

This isn't a XP OS issue. Best to post to a hardware newsgroup.

Sounds like it, but "a few beeps" is not descriptive enough...how many
beeps, and are they short or long? That'll help us troubleshoot exactly
what's wrong with it.

A good starting place when asking user groups for help:

i'm doubting your assumption about the RAM.
The blue screen (BSOD) is when RAM causes an error in windows.
perhaps if there's no RAM or a serious RAM error, i'l'l cause a beep.
I might say the same for a processor.

Don't rule those out
And you don't need to plug in a floppy drive. You've probably plugged
in more things than you need too. You won't get a beep and no monitor
without a hard drive in there. So why plug it in.

Considering changing PSU, RAM,processor
or alternatively, try those parts in another machine to test them

I don't think there's much more you can do after that. But you've made
some assumptions thatp erhaps you shoudln't have made. And you've
plugged in some things that you don't need.

All you need to plug in, is the power supply, the RAM, the processor.
you can actually turn it on with a screwdriver. tapping the nib of the
screwdriver over the 2 pins that turn it on

Remove all screws from the MBRD take it out of the case. I've had cases
where a comp won't start up because it got short circuited by a screw
in a screwhole that shouldn't have had a screw. Though I didn't get
beeps with that.

is the CMOS battery in there? maybe the jumper near the CMOS battery is
on the reset
position. I'm not sure if that causes a beep but it can stop start up.
