Boot Up.

I am at a loss. My computer will not boot up. The CPU just beeps and
nothing happens. I do not think that I did anything other than turn it off
last night. Any Ideas???

Yes, the monitor shows "no signal" and the busy lighton the CPU stays Orange.

Hi

That behavior could mean that your mobo has had it - especially if the
orange light is constantly on trying to boot your system. I had exactly the
same thing happen here a few months ago - and had to replace the mobo to get
the system up and running again.

Can you get into the BIOS and reset everything to Default? See if that
improves the situation.

Ok, How do I get into my BIOS if it will not boot up? Is it an F1 type key?

Never mind the lights for now...Do you hear the computer starting and then
stopping?

If you hear the computer starting and then almost immediately stopping, you
most likely have a hardware problem. You might have a damaged or defective
power supply, cooling fan(s) or motherboard, for example. In that case you
would need to bring your computer to a technician who has the tools to
diagnose the problem.

It's also possible that your BIOS is scrambled. The BIOS is the software
that 'wakes up' your computer when you press the power button. The BIOS
itself may corrupted or the CMOS chip on which it resides may be damaged.
But these are rare events, usually caused by power surges (like a lightening
strike).

On boot up you will see a message at the bottom of screen telling you how to
access 'Setup'. If setting the BIOS to default doesn't work, then there is
a hardware problem.

Hi,
try to google 'beep error code bios'
Every BIOS manufacturer has his own beep codes sequence to tell what goes
wrong...
All you have to do is knowing your BIOS manufacturer (AMI, AWARD BIOS, ...)
If you can't see it on your screen in the first seconds, you'll have to open
your computer cover and read it on the chips...

Ok, I removed my newly installed ATI video card and put monitor thru the MB's
video card. This worked, the machine booted right up and my display is fine,
I must have a defective video card. Ya think???
