Boot up takes a long time

I have a system that takes a long time to boot up. Approximately 7 minutes.
Its a 2GH system with 512RAM. What would cause a system to take so long to
boot. It stays on the screen where it says: "Preparing network connections"
for a long time.

Thanks,
Jasper

Could be a lot of things; more info is required. I'd start first by looking
at event viewer after loading. It could be hardware (cable, network or any
other adapter, etc.). If you're on a network (as it sounds) unplug the
network cable and see how long it boots; could be a DNS problem, DHCP
problem, etc.

If your not connected to a network then set an IP address manually, this
stops 2K from looking for a DHCP server.
