Just a quick question if anyone could help, I have used Win2k for some
time with no problems except boot up time seems so long. Have notice a
friends newer computer with XP Pro, the boot up time seems extremely
fast.
Both computers are P4's so why does XP boot so fast vs win2k.
Many thanks.

But the machine is not fully started quicker. It just presents a user
interface earlier, and continues the startup in the background. This means
that policy and script processing can be delayed.

Because bootup time was a major user complaint with 2K, MS spent a lot of
effort on improving that in XP. A demonstration of improved boot time was
included in live demos at the XP debut.

Exactly. It's largely smoke and mirrors.

XP presents the User Interface sooner, but you can't actually do any
work sooner. They both take the same amount of time to load and be
"ready" for the user. If you disable the GUI Fluff, XP runs almost as
fast as 2000 desktop/GUI does.
