boot-up problem

I'm not sure if this is an XP problem, hardware problem, or...

This happened 2 weeks ago and then happened again this morning:

I boot up, things proceed normally, I get the normal wallpaper and then just
before the icons are supposed to appear, everything stops. I can move the
mouse arrow, but that's it. I have a blank screen, no icons.

I end up pressing the power button down to shut it down. I wait 20 seconds,
reboot, and all is fine. This has only happened twice (I use my computer
extensively).

Any ideas? I have no idea what to check.

Is there anything I can do when it freezes like that other than shutting it
down like I did? (I tried ctrl/alt./del but nothing happened).

I have XP HOME

As per your other post:
It means your sys is hanging on the advapi.dll
As to why its OK after a reboot?

What is that file?
How do I fix it?

(Should I do anything at this point seems it has only happened twice?)
