Boot to different Resolution

Someone changed the resolution on a Win2K machine. Now it boots up with a
sync rate too high for the monitor. I've uninstalled the drivers for the
onboard Intel video, but after installling, it goes back to the high res
rate. Where is the resolution set in the registry so that I can change it
so that @ least I can boot up to chnage back (& of course select 'ask me
before...'). Or perhaps another way to be able to fix this 'problem'. I
don't know how to do this from vga mode.

Much-TIA

have you tried starting in "safe" mode?

I do know how to boot safe & vga modes, as previously stated.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to change the resolution in either of these
modes, nor does it appear to be changeable as only 640 x480 x16 colors is
only available in these modes. I believe my only option is to hack the
registry, as uninstalling & then reinstalling puts me back to the _same_
resolution.

Again TIA

While in safe mode, install a standard VGA driver.
When you reboot, your system will use that driver.
You can then re-install the most appropriate drifver
for your system, and select the resolution you
require.

You can, of course, hack the registry. Since the
keys are specific to your driver, only a person who
uses the same driver can tell you exactly how to
force a different resolution.

Thanks. And again, I've already done this, again as originally stated!
Perhaps I should have highlighted _re_installed, but I thought someone would
have picked up on that. So to reword, when reinstalling the proper driver,
it defaults back to the resolution that I'm having a problem with.

Sorry I posted to wrong group.

You are quite correct: You did state that you had already gone through a
re-installation route. I should have picked it up. At the same time I admit
that I am puzzled about the high refresh rate. Every driver I have dealt
with so far would default to a low refresh rate after installation, say 60
Hz. Yours appears to do things differently.

If you cannot solve your problem directly then you could try and walk around
it:
- Remove each and every reference to your display adapter from the registry
while in Safe Mode.
- Take the machine to your friendly computer dealer and hook it up to a
monitor that can sustain the high refresh rate.

Good luck!
