Boot Time

T

Hello All,

I have Windows XP Pro x/SP2 on my PC. I really like
Windows XP, however, I would like to improve my boot time
(about 75 seconds).

I find that when I log in to Windows, as things begin to
load, there appears to be little or no hard drive access.
It seems that the computer is not using its full potential
when booting. Perhaps I am wrong, but I feel that there
would be a quicker start time if there was a little more
hard drive access.

I would like to know how I can improve this. I have read
about BoorVis, but heard both good and bad things about
it. I have disabled unnecissary start up items, defragged
the drive, etc...

My PC is:

1.2 GHz AMD Athlon
512 MB PC133 RAM
80 GB 7200 RPM Maxtor HDD
ATI Radeon 9600XT

All devices have the latest drivers.

Do you have any other advice on how to help?

Thanks in advance,

Toby

75 seconds doesn't sound at all bad to me.
Assuming that the speed is otherwise satisfactory, it may not be
worth worrying about. Most people start their computers once a
day or even less frequently. In the overall scheme of things,
even a few minutes to start up isn't very important. Personally I
power on my computer when I get up in the morning, then go get my
coffee. When I come back, it's done booting. I don't know how
long it took to boot and I don't care.

If you want to spend some boring time, do some clean boot
troubleshooting to see if something is hanging up:
