Boot problems

I have A 1 TB drive in my computer , split up in differnt partitions. XP on
one part and Vista on the other half. And a 500 GB E-Book , USB conected , is
were I backup all my stuff. All works great , the problem is when I reboot.
The boot program runs through its dionostic and if I leave the 500 GB E-Book
pluged in that is where it stops. But if I unpluge the 500 GB E-Book it boots
fine. It used to boot fine. I know it something I did but can't find it.
Thank you Al Cassell

Not an answer, but personally I wouldn't leave any USB hd plugged in, during
shutdown or reboot - a recipe for hd corruption IMO

Have you tried removing the USB Device selection from the list of device
types included in the boot drive order setting in the BIOS?
