Please bare with me, very basic comp. builder, thank-you.

While trying to repair a boot problem I put my XP pro cd in my comp.
After clicking a couple yes options the C drive started to format and
got to 1%. I then did a main switch shut-off to save my files.

Here is the current problem:
part way into boot I get 2 options:
#1- windows xp proffesional
#2- windows xp proffesional setup

#2 is hilighted and gives me 5 seconds to choose or else automatically
asks for the cd to finish loading windows.

If I hilight #1 the comp boots perfect and runs very well.

I would like to eliminate #2 and just boot normally.

Any basic replies appreciated,
Thank-you,
Darryl

Do we assume you cant get to your files/data if so then you now need data
recovery software...........Acronis TrueImage for example.

make the Acronis boot recovery disc on another comp (obvious). Set your
messed up comp to Boot from CD in the BIOS. Put in Acronis Boot Recovery
disc restart the comp and follow the instructions to recover what's left.
You may also need some for of hardware to save the data to ie CDs or
external HD (favourite)

Hi,

I think you need to edit your system.ini file, which is easy to get to
once Windows is started. Doing this will eliminate the choice of which
operating system you want to boot.
Go to the Control Panel, then System folder, and choose the Advanced
tab.Click on Settings at Startup and Recovery. and then click on the box
that says "to edit the startup options manually click edit."

I would suggest that before you start playing around you make a Restore
Point just to insure that you can get back in case you edit the wrong way.
I would simply remove references to the second Windows XP installation so
the boot manager doesn't initiate.

I did manage to get the hard drive working properly again, no problem
there.
The only problem now is : I beleive there is a file on the h/d that
says the xp cd is partially loaded and wants to resume loading. If I
let the comp boot option #2 it tells me to insert the xp cd.
If I choose option #1 the comp runs fine, no files lost.
Thank-you for the feed-back.

Jan Alter, thank-you very much.
Comp boots and runs good again.
I had a similar problem before where I had to choose
xp pro or xp pro (??).
This procedure would have cured that, I am sure.
Once again, that was the answer I needed, thank-you.
