Boot.ini files

I am unable to locate any boot.ini files on my c-drive or the Windows-XP installation disk. I receive an error message on boot-up indicating "Invalid.Boot.ini file," "Booting from C:/Windows." I have attempted a dirty installation, repair installation, and search to no avail. Any suggestions other than reformatting the hard drive and starting from scratch.

It is a hidden file,by default.
Go to windows explorer->tools->folder options->view->select show hidden
files.

You need to use Windows Explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options and select
the View tab. On the list there is a folder called "Hidden files and
folders" click on it to display an option button labeled "Show hidden files
and folders". Select it and you will now be able to see your boot.ini file
in the root of your C: drive. If it helps below is a copy of my boot.ini
file, yours may not have the last line if you havn't installed the recovery
console.
