Boot error?

Hi i have a problem. I had to re-install my o.s xp. I kept d: drive from a
previous installation as it was only C: which had problems, big mistake! When
I re-installed the o.s I got a error on boot up 'Harddrive failure immenent
please backup data immediatly' After this I decided to wipe both partitions
and do a completely fresh install but after which im still getting this error
message? After the message it says press f1 when i press f1 windows starts
normally. It seems having 2 partitions from different installations of
windows xp started this error and i cannot get rid of it? I've ran anti virus
and chkdsk to no avail. Is there anyway I can clean the boot sector of this
message? I also discovered that I have a mystery partition on my drive? its
labelled 'PQ service' and is almost 3gb in size? it also says eisa
conifguration in the details? Could this be part of my problem? Is this
strange? Or is it manufacturer files from acer? Mostly how do i clear error
message from Bootup and what is this mystery partition?

My spec
acer Aspire 1642 laptop wlmi
centrino 1.73
80 gb hd
512 ram
xp pro service pack 2 all updates

yeh, acer's have a hidden
partition reserved for
emergency restoration
purposes. it can usually
be accessed via a special
f10 key and a backup/restore
program will launch.

go to acer.com and get
the details for your specific
model, i.e., user manual,
faq's, how-to's, drivers, downloads
and patches...

Will installing the acer recovery program sort out my problem? Is my hard
drive on its way out? The machine was almost new when this problem started
now theres no guarantee left.

well, it doesn't sound
like you have much of a
choice.

if you have saved all your
personal files, then restoring
your laptop to the original
factory settings should be
considered, (erecovery):

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/fo....com&siteid=7117&areaid=2&formid=3390#results

it's possible that your original
issue may have been a result
of not keeping the notebooks
drivers up to date from acer.com

Go to C:\> FIXMBR and Enter

Then do a

C:\>FIXBOOT and Enter

Go through these tests and allow the utilities to fix both MBR & the System
Partition. The utilities should also resolve the mirror OS issue.

I suspect the ghost partion is vendor related and supports their hardware
configuration.

I hate laptops. They're very proprietary

Good luck.
