Boot Disk Failure after installing SP1 In Win XP Pro

Chris

I tried searching for a resolution for this, but have not
been able to find anything. I am hoping someone here can
help me. I just installed Service Pack 1. After it
finished, it prompted me to reboot and I did. Then i got
the following:

Verifying DMI Pool Data...
Boot from Atapi CDROM...Failure
BOOT DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I do not have a floppy disk in the floppy drive, and my
boot order is
Floppy
CDROM
Hard Drive

So I can no longer get into my system. It was working fine
before. This didnt happen until after I applied SP1 from
windows update. I can have read about others doing a
repair from their XP CD, but I would really like to find
out why this happened, and see if there is a way I can fix
it before I take that step. Any input would be greatly
appreciated.

Rod;
Forgot to mention in my post that I tried that as well. i
did figure out how to fix my problem. I Booted up to WinXP
CD, went into recovery console, and did the following:
-----------------------------------------------------------
How to Repair the Boot Sector:
If XP won't start it may be due to a damaged boot sector
or a missing or corrupt ntldr or ntdetect.com files.

To replace damaged ntldr and ntdetect.com you can copy
fresh files from the XP CD using the COPY command. Boot
with the XP CD and enter the Recovery Console (as above).
At the Command Prompt type the following (where "X" is
your CD-Rom drive letter) allowing the files to overwrite
the old files
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:
Type Exit to quit and restart.
----------------------------------------------------------

My pc booted back up into Windows XP again. Not sure why
the service pack did that. Thanks for your input though.
Talk to you later.

The service pack didn't do that. It's just an unhappy coincidence!
