Board Choices

Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI

Asus A8N SLI Premium

I was wondering which board would be the better in your opinion guys. I
have a friend who is upgrading and the Asus board is getting a lot of hype,
I am suggesting the Fatal1ty due to the fact that I am bias because I have
had a few bad asus boards and one this loaded IMO can't be much better so I
would like some feedback from unbiased people. LOL

TIA

Everyone has a bias in such matters. However, I would recommend the Fatal1ty
for features. Stability and speed, both are about the same.

Citing problems with a motherboard because it has so many
features is a bit beside the point- that one can always
disable some, providing those remaining still work.

On the other hand, features aren't always free, so if you
don't care for them just skip the "premium" asus versions.
Abit makes good boards too though, i tmight be splitting
hairs as the most important parameters will be the specific
parts combinations you use to populate either board and I
can't forsee the problems arising from any particular
combination. In other words, problems are best seen in
retrospect but you have two high-quality boards picked out.

Personally I think the Abit board is built better but has
one less PCI slot which could be a real issue on a
well-endowed system... but I dont' know what you want to
plug into it.

He is populating it with a FX-57 and two Nvidia 7800GTX cards and a couple
gigs of RAM, he is a hardcore gamer so I am sure the only PCI he will be
needing is the Soundblaster XFI

Ok, I can only speak for myself when I suggest that if I
were putting down $1000 or more on a box that it better be
able to accomodate more than just a sound card. That's just
me though, seems I want gigabit lan (which is now commonly
integral) and a capture card in everything, and who knows
what cool new gizmo will come out next (LOL).

I agree but he doesn't he has another system with more then enough horses to
do video editing and what not this is literally for gaming, nothing else not

Abit seems to have the edge on dependability. And if increased memory is an
issue,be advised the Asus has a flaw that doesn't allow it to use a full
4mb's.
