bmp jpg mess

Using IE, 'Save Picture As' results in
the "untitled" "bmp" ONLY problem {even with all temp
files and unknown dowloaded programs deleted}. Occurs
often, but not always. Also (and worse) Windows XP
identifes ALL graphics as bmp files ?! (using Windows
Explorer and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) -- every
other software program on my computer can tell the
difference! What gives Microsoft? Frustrating ...
