bluetooth mouse and keyboard not working with aftermarket USB Hub

hello, i installed the software for the wireless
microsoft bluetooth mouse and keyboard and it worked
fine. i needed more usb ports so i bought an ALI pci card
that has 4 external usb, 1 internal usb, 1 internal
firewire, and 2 external firewire. Once the ALI card was
installed on the computer, the bluetooth accessories no
longer respond and have to be reinstalled with the usb
port out of the computer. The wierd thing is, i left the
bluetooth usb plugged into the usb port that is on my
existing motherboard, so it shouldn't have anything to do
with the card. i saw on microsoft.com the article number
815037 and i am totally lost on what i have to do.
something about going from 2.0 back to 1.1?? any help is
appreciated, as i need my bluetooth devices, yet i need
my usb hub also. thanks. oh, my computer is a hp pavilion
xt953, windows xp pro corp edition, 512mb memory, 40gb
hard drive, 160 gb hard drive, pentium 3 1.0 ghz.

You said that you installed the BT mouse and keyboard first and then the ALI
card.
Does this mean that you had other USB ports and that the MS BT set was
working on them before you installed the ALI card?
As far as I can see the article that you mention seems to say that you
cannot plug the MS BT dongle into a USB 2.0 hub which is plugged into a root
USB port.
Which means that you need to keep the BT dongle plugged into one of the root
USB ports so that the BT dongle will use that as a USB 1.1 port.
Does that make things any clearer?
