I am new to windows vista and a couple of days ago someboday was trying to
send me some files to my VIAO via bluetooth. Is there a way to find out the
identity of the device used in this case? In other words is there somekind of
log book in windows vista that keep record of all attempts and the device
used (such as mobile phone number and serial no for instance) to connect or
send files via bluetooth?

no not as far as i know only think windows tells you is the bluetooth device
id, which if you aren't a geek it pretty much useless. to most people it is
useless, unless maybe you have a tracking software, which i don't know if it
exists
