Blue screen without an error code

Having a lot of trouble starting XP Professional. It stops at a blue screen
with xp logo on it and gives no error code. Found via google and here on the
forums different suggestion, but none is valid for me as the omputer doesn't
go further than the blue screen. Nothing loads... just a blue screen.

It started a couple of days ago just out of the blue. F8 doesn't work most
of the time and when it does options I tried (save mode, last configuaration
that worked etc.); didn't help. I finally reinstalled XP but to no avail. I
can open bios and the configurations are, as far as I know, right. Thanks
for aany suggestions!

Hi Goma
I am not sure what kind of computer you have or if your system came
orginally with xp but i had the same problem about a year ago.

I had a HP computer which XP came with and i was trying to update my xp home
to xp professional when i had nothing but a blue screen coming up, no error
just a very annoying blue screen.

You should try pushing F10 during start up and see what screen it takes you
to.If you have a recovery part in your computer then you will be taken to
this screen.
If you do, please remember to NOT do a destructive recovery as this will
delete all of your photos, emails, files....it will take your computer right
back to a factory settings only.... do a system recovery, yes it will take
you back to factory settings but it will SAVE all of your files you wont lose
files only programs....its a safe recovery...
I have had to do it at work (huge company) to 5 different employees
computers now

good luck

Thanks Kyls, I really appreciate that. I've a 1 year-old AMD Athlon Pro 2800
and so far it always did its job well. I'll try your suggestion and let you
know. I'll have to handle it delicately coz I've many valuable things on the
compuer, incl. 1000's of CD's. Thanks again.

Does it it boot if you disconnect all peripherals except keyboard, mouse
and monitor?

I've tried both options: reboot without peripherals and F10 during startup.
Altthough all F8-options are now all of sudden working (!), the grass is alas
still blue over here. Thanks anyway and all tips are, of course, welcome.

Can you view Event Viewer reports in safe mode?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Are there any System Restore points predating the start of the problems?

Summary of a night shift: Operation failed but the patient is now totally
healthy!
I've been busy for hours on end trying all kinds of solutions; they all
ended up with the BSOD. The blue guy finally gave me so much blues
(ironically the dominant colour in my CD collection) that I decided to
reinstall XP; not repair, as I first did, but a clean install. There I saw
what might have been the problem: Partition unknown! I went on thinking the
partition would be (again) NFTS and no damage will be done. Result:
Everything deleted but the computer is now running briskly.

Thanks anyway for your detailed reaction. I certainly appreciate that and,
who knows, it might help somone else or myself in the future. Take care!
