Rick,
I see you're trying to help many people with their Vista problems. Here's
mine...

The file contents from the above listed text file....

Windows NT Version 6.0 Build: 6000
Product (0x2): Windows Vista (TM) Home Basic
Edition: HomeBasic
BuildString: 6000.16584.x86fre.vista_gdr.071023-1545
Flavor: Multiprocessor Free
Architecture: X86
LCID: 1033

I couldn't open the .dmp file or the .xml file.

I was on the phone with Dell for over an hour last night and one of the
techs installed an updated drive for me yet the problem persists. I have the
latest BIOS and I have run sfc/scannow. The scan said that there was some
currupt files that could not be repaired. I tried to open the cbs.log file
but was denied access..even after I gave myself permission. FYI, I installed
Microsoft Word 2000 from my old discs from my old computer. Could that have
caused this problem or is it simply Vista being Vista? My sister has a laptop
from a different manufacturer and has the same problem. Any help would be
appreciated.

Rick, Did you find out anything about this shutdown issue? I get the same
BCCode 101. I would like to know how to read the minidump files to see if I
can figure out what the problem is. More info in post "unexpected shutdown
dell laptop" for 3/15/2008.

Yes,which would typically be displayed as a set of words typed in all
uppercase and joined together by underscores.

hi

you mean the message in the BSOD itself?

keep getting it...

it reads:

A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the
allocated time interval.

It says something about disabling things like caching or shadowing in
the bios.

DID YOU DO THAT????

It appears that way because the forum you are using munges the address to
prevent users from having their addresses harvested. The forum slurps
messages from Microsoft's newsservers, which is where I am. I believe you
have now heard from me privately, but you can use rick_at_mvps_dot_org

Similar to what? Your response does not contain the original post, and the
forum you are using just schleps posts from Microsoft's newsgroups in a weak
attempt to make them appear legitimate. No one at vbulletin can help you as
there are no real techs there, but if you use a newsreader to post to the
real groups, we may be able to assist you. Click on:

Help Rick "Nutcase" Rogers,

I cannot ask a question on the forum. I click new, and question, and get an
error logo. But I have the same BlueScreen problem and would like to chat
with you some how. My unwanted shutdown manifests the following:

C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-1748396-0.sysdata.xml

How can I chat? As I said I seem to be locked out of this forum. I am at

Hi Rob,

Send this file to me at rick_at_mvps._dot_org using a subject line of "per
req" (and nothing else or it won't get through):
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini012309-04.dmp

It may contain information that can help identify the source of the trouble.

As to the forum, try using a newsreader instead, it's far more functional.
In Vista, it's built into WindowsMail, all you need do is click on the link
I gave to get started, or you can set it up yourself using instructions I
have at http://rickrogers.org/setupoe.htm
