Blue screen when installing XP

I recently upgraded about everything on my computer. I
have an original copy of Win98 SE that I install first,
then use a WinXP upgrade disc to perform a full install
(converting to NTFS) since I have no data or programs
loaded that I need. Halfway through the install I get a
blue screen that says PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. It
then tells me several things to do but the only one I can
do is: 1) Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or
shadowing. It also tells me to make sure any new
hardware or software is properly installed but everything
is new and as of yet is uninstalled. I also disabled all
integrated hardware (RAID controller, LAN jack, on-board
sound), but this hasn't helped. This is the first time
I've used a Chaintech MB and fear this may be the problem.

I read through these and I have Corsair XMS RAM that
worked up until i transferred it to this computer (ESD
precautions taken) and a brand new ATI Radeon 9800 All in
Wonder. I disabled all onboard memories and still get
the error. At one point I got WinXP to install but then
got an error with ntfs.sys. Is my hard drive going bad?
