Blue screen stop message

Sometimes (perhaps about once a week) within about 5 minutes of start-up I
get a blue screen stop message which reads something along the lines of:

Stop: 0x000000B8 (0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000)
A wait operation, attach process or yield was attempted from a DPC routine.

I'm not sure if this is an operating system (Win2k + sp4) or a hardware
problem. It seems to happen as I start to load a programme/application but
not always the same application.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what hardware you are running so this may be irrelevant:

However, most of the info. that I've found on the subject suggests that you
need to upgrade to the latest SP and DirectX...

the registry settings.
