Blue screen on shutdown

I am running win xp home and when I shut it down, it goes
to "shutting down" screen, then the diaglog box
disappears and a blue screen just hangs till I hold power
button in to turn off...Any help??

Can you post the Error code/message/filter driver file name as displayed in the BSOD?
