help!!!. my sister's pc gets a bsod everytime the pc is started..it states
that a new driver was installed or something like that and will not go past
the blue screen. it will not allow to reboot in safe mode either. I have
tried reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling xp at which point it will
successfully boot but when the pc is turned off and rebooted the problem
returns. I was able to restart once in safe mode at which point I went into
system and disabled a mutimedia audio device which showed to have an error
and it allowed me to reboot. I turned off the pc tried to reboot again and
the problem returned. If I turn off the option to boot from c: and it boots
from the xp cd I have to chose recover windows installation to get pc to
load..when I turn c: back on I cannot reboot...at last attempt the pc would
boot to the screen where all the user accounts are listed then it would
continously reboot itself from that point. my niece told me the pc had gotten
a virus on it once and the hard drive was reformatted then and the problem
has been reocuuring since then. help please!!!

Lil, was a new device recently installed? Like a sound card?
Or RAM? etc.,? If so remove said device and see
if it will boot normally. Two of my recent experiences with
BSOD's were both hardware related, faulty modem and a
bad RAM stick. Same symptons you described. If not hardware
fault, I dunno...

Nothing new installed...the pc is an AOpen. the only thing that is not "on
board" is the video card, the network card & a usb expansion. It does not
have a modem. Everything is original from purchase. My niece said the problem
didn't first appear until after she had gotten a virus..I don't remember the
name of the virus. I suggested a new pc as when the monitor (samsung
syncmaster 750b) is plugged into the tower it is conducting electricity
through the entire pc..( I had to wear rubber gloves) I do not have the error
to post as they live 1hr away and never thought to copy it down...don't know
when I'll be there next
