Blue screen of death in Vista RTM on ASUS A8Jm laptop

Hi all,

I recently installed Vista RTM upgrade on my laptop. Having had difficultly
finding certified graphics drivers for my GeForce Go 7600 graphics card I
finally installed the latest forceware drivers (100.40).

These installed ok but I now encounter a blue screen of death and restart
whenever I attempt to run anything that relies even lightly on the advanced
graphics. I cannot even rerun the Windows Experience index program to upgrade
my score with my PC immediately crashing and restarting (therefore I cannot
enable the aero interface even though the hardware is more than capable.).

Attempting to run paticular windows games such as MS Hold'em causes the same
problem. I have attempted disabling all my startup programs but still get the
same problem.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? If so does anyone have any idea of
what might be causing it.

I thought that Vista was supposed to handle these issues more elegantly
(than XP)??
I can't even get the error description due to the reboot occuring
immediately after the BSOD is displayed (for about half a second).

Help please!

Hi,

Roll the driver back for now to the one that came installed with Vista.
There have been a number of people reporting problems with Nvidia's driver
set. Hopefully, they will resolve it soon.

Can you go back to the other driver? Obviously this new one hates your
machine and its best to wait until they fix the drivers and release stable
versions.
BTW you do not need certified drivers. If you find another driver that is
not certified, you can still try it just accept the warning that its not
been certified and carry on.

Thanks for the response
unfortunately the drivers that come with vista only allow me to run my
widescreen (with a native res of 1280x800) at a skewed 800x600 max!

At least the Nvidia drivers allow me to run @ native res.

It's unfortunate really that I cannot use much of the simple functionality
(such as the media center or even media player) without a crash . If it
really is due to the video drivers then Nvida really do have a long way to go
IMO...
How is it that a company like that can't release working drivers by the time
an OS goes to market? Seems rather strange to me considering how long the
vista betas have been available!

I have tried around 6 differant versions for the forceware drivers from
nvidia (certified and not). All have yeilded the same result
No joy.

I guess I'll just have to wait for a working version of these drivers to be
released (and I'm not holding my breath if after more than 10 major versions
they are still have problems)...
