I recieve the dreaded Blue screen with error message
"Driver_Power_State_Failure", when trying to shutdown Windows XP. After hours
of searching Microsoft Help and Support, I found a possible solution might be
a non-pnp driver. Device Manager did indicate a problem with the yellow
exclamation point, but after uninstalling the driver, using System Restore,
Diagnostic Startup, SFC, and Check Disk the problem still exists. Your
solution is much appreciated.

I personally, set mine like this, using XP pro, give them a try.

Right click the desktop, select Properties > Screen Saver.
Screen Saver: None

Click on Power.
Power schemes, select > Home/Office Desk.
Turn off monitor : 5 minutes
Turn off hard disks: 15 minutes
System standby: Never

Click on Advanced.
Options > Both unticked.
Power Buttons.
When I press the power button on my computer > Shut down
When I press the sleep button on my computer > Stand by

Click on Hibernate.
Untick > Enable hibernation

If your desktop PC computer is NOT a laptop then you can stop
Hibernate.
