"Bloop!" sound when clicking link & link doesn't work.

I use a friends computer, and a few days ago I started getting a
short/curt 'bloop!' sound when clicking some links (and when I get the
'bloop!' the link doesn't work). What the *heck* is it?!

Seems to have started after somebody [ there are kids in the house ]
downloaded a MySearch toolbar, an AOL toolbar, and -- of all things --
KaZaa!

I put AVG Free and MS Antispyware on prior to the 'bloop!' but I think
I'm losing the battle. (Spybot S & D locked the computer up for some
reason, so I removed it.) Anyway, what's the 'bloop!,' and why won't
the links work? (IE 6.029...; Win XP Home)

Thank you.

The "Bloop" sound could be an audio signal that a POP-UP was blocked? If
you are using IE with SP2, then the Pop-up blocker is built-in.

Well, let me see ... just after reading your note, Yves, I got the
"bloop!" when I went File ---> New ---> Window. (I wasn't expecting
the 'bloop!', but I think that's what I did: I either did that or
brought to the foreground a Window I already had open, but regardless,
I got the ... thing without clicking the mouse).

The 'puter does have SP2, so I checked and the Pop-up blocker -- at
least in IE -- was off. Hmmmmm.

?

Thank you for responding, Yves.

the AOL toolbar has a popup blocker, as does the Yahoo , Google, MSN, etc
etc.
Pick one, remove the rest.
