'turn off 'button freezes

hello
just Reformatted my Computer 1.6 pentium sp2 . Nortons Av 2006 office
2003.when i go to start, Turn off Computer' nothing happens for about 5
minutes except the cursor hangs in egg timer mode, finally goes to the 3
options ..standby ..turn off..restart .click on turn off and it takes about
another 5 minutes to switch off .i have very few programs running on my
machine at the moment,but prior to shutting down theres 1 sometimes 2 bleeps
or rather 'bloops'. hope this isnt too confusing .
any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,

To reinstall Power Management in Windows XP, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, select Control Panel, and then choose Performance and
Maintenance.
2. Click the System icon to open the System properties window.
3. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
5. Right-click the ACPI related entries and select Uninstall.
6. Restart the system.

Hi vikki
thankyou for your reply, did as you suggested computer turns off ok now
...just the one 'bloop' when booting down ( software problem ?)
