Blocking 'sign in' popups

I often encounter 'login' popups when first accessing a website. I'm
not referring to any proprietary site. These come up with sites like,
Guitar Center, and other frequently accessed sites, so I presume that
this is something specific to my configuration. Probably due to
having blocked popups, or blocked certain URLs.

Examples:
GuitarCenter.com goes to:
"Connecting to bp.scpeificclick.net"
Then asks for User Name and Password (as below)

The window is the familiar small popup with keys on a ring, and
combo-box for "User name:", textbox for "Password:", and a checkbox
for "Remember my password".

This is probably a common occurrence, but I couldn't find Google
search keys that narrowed to solutions for this particular problem.
Any info appreciated.

If I use Firefox and "View Source" for guitarcenter.com, this is what
I find.

The bp.specificclick.net is presumably being used to update a
tracking cookie on your computer. Normally, such a "zero sized image"
should not present anything to the user.

I tried entering

http://bp.specificclick.net?pixid=99003829

and ended up with some cookies added to my "cookies.sqlite" file.
There was no request for a username and password. And nothing
was rendered in my Firefox window.

Specificclick seems to be clean, as far as this check goes.

Malware already on the computer maybe ??? I cannot
honestly say I've seen a prompt for username/password
lately while surfing the net. It makes me suspicious
that something on your computer is trying to grab information
from you.
