blocking issue (Microsoft Shared Fax Client) when trying to install

E

ed

I get a blocking issue (microsoft Shared Fax Client) when
I try to install Win XP home (update from Win ME), but I
cant find any fax drivers/ programs etc in "Search". I
have deleted / uninstalled anything that looks like a fax/
printer driver, including the dial up modem.
How can I view the offending file(s) that caused the
blocking issue? Can I do a search or interogate the part
of the system that generated the blocking issue?

I previously had XP installed and working OK, (updated
from ME) and while it was working I enabled XP fax.

I reverted back to Win ME so I could delete Norton
Antivirus, (I didn't know to un install it before updating
to XP),reinstall XP and then reinstall Norton Anti Virus.
I suspect the blocking issue is caused by the remnants of
XP Fax, but how do I delete it if I cant access (or
install) Win XP?

1. Open up My Computer.
2. Go to Tools, Folder Options.
3. Put a check in "Show hidden files and folders".
4. Click on Start, then Run.
5. Type in: CMD , and hit enter.
6. Type in: cd\ , then hit enter
7. Type in: dir fxsclnt.exe /s
(Remember what directory you found the file in)
8. Type in Exit.
9. Double click on My Computer.
10. Right-click on the C: drive and click on Explorer.
11. Find the directory that housed the fxsclnt.exe.
12. Delete the file and restart.

Now, you should be able to upgrade to Windows XP.
