Blocking images from Junk emails

In Windows Mail, I have the setting to block images set to on, so, whenever a
message in html format arrives, if it has images and the sender was not set
as trustable yet, it will block the images.

But, funny side is that the feature seems not to work for the junk emails
which makes no sense at all. All my junk emails, if in html format and with
images, images will be shown despite the setting.

Am I missing some other setting or this is supposed to be the right although
odd behaviour for Windows Mail?

That setting normally works quite well.
Perhaps you are using a third party security program that is preventing
changes to the registry, and thereby is blocking WM setting changes
from being saved.

Incidentally, if you upgrade to Windows Live Mail, it automatically
blanks the preview pane for any email judged to be Junk E-Mail.

other application at all, besides Vista own ones. I don't think it looks at
registry keys.

Is Windows Live Mail better than Windows Mail? If so, why Vista comes with
Windows Mail and not Windows Live Mail? What's the difference? I'm waiting
for an Office 2007 DVD to arrive (it's on back order, believe it or not) and
then I'll have Outlook but I did want Windows Mail to act accordingly.

The Norton family of antivirus programs, known to cause assorted problems
in Windows Mail although seldom immediately, also comes from Symantec.
I don't know how much they copied over to their other antivirus family, but
it would be interesting to have to wait a few months to find out if it
includes
the parts causing the problems.

Not everyone agrees on which is better. However, Microsoft apparantly
thinks
Windows Live Mail is better, since they seem to have stopped releasing
updates
for Windows Mail.

The main reason why Windows Live Mail wasn't included in Vista seems to
be that it wasn't ready in time.

Windows Live Mail was released in November of last year, some
12 months after Vista was finalized, so you see why it wasn't included.
Windows Mail was (in my opinion) a stop-gap measure.
Windows Live Mail does everything Windows Mail does, plus it has
many additional features:

Able to accommodate Hotmail/MSN accounts.

Real-time spell checker (like in Outlook, it marks typos immediately
with a red squiggly underline).

Auto-correction of commonly misspelled words (changes 'teh'
to 'the', and 'i' to 'I').

Better auto-completion when typing in recipients.

Contacts group feature is more flexible.

About the issue with Windows Mail, now I found that some junk emails have
their pictures blocked, some have not (I deselected, applied and selected
again and applied again the option to make sure Windows Mail get it). My
guess is that for the emails that are not blocked, their pictures are not
linked to a site but rather embeded into the message. I can't still tell
that this is the case because I didn't figure out yet how to read the source
code of the message in Windows Mail (I am a Vista novice...).

To see all of the source code in a message in Windows Mail, including
the headers, open the message, then press the Ctrl and F3 keys of
your keyboard at the same time. I haven't tried this in the Junk E-mail
folder, though, so I'm not sure it works there.

CTRL-F2 will show the HTML source code of any open message. CTRL-F3 shows
the entire message source, as you indicated.

I installed Windows Live Mail (and also Windows Live Gallery) and now I have
both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail in my Programs and also both Windows
Gallery and Windows Live Gallery.

Wasn't the "Live" version supposed to be an update or upgrade to the
"non-Live" versions? Having both versions in the system makes not much of a
sense since they are similar, same GUI, same functions, just one has more
features than the other.

And, for some unknown-to-me reason, IE doesn't allow me to post messages
here anymore. When I click Reply, it does nothing. I am using Windows Live
Mail to read the newsgroup now.

You can't uninstall Windows Mail. Just let it lie dormant.
If WLM ever fouls up on you, you'll have WM to fall back on.

WLM is not really an 'upgrade' of WM, although I often call it that
in order to promote the seamless way that WLM imports all WM
settings, accounts, and emails.
