blinking cursor size

My blinking cursor, used to indicate the text point is now
at least one space wide. It is impossible to tell which
side of a letter the cursor is on. The entire 'cell' of
the cursor blinks instead of the 'line '.
The only change I've made recently was the change of the
pointing cursor style to bronze. Changing it back or
trying other pointer schemes has been fruitless. The
pointing part of the cursor is fine, it is only the text
point that is oversized.
How do I adjust the blinking cursor width?

Go to Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Display (tab).
Under "Cursor Options", move the "Width" slider all the way
to the left (narrow) and click APPLY.
