Blank Word Document not blank

Each time I open Word, instead of a blank document, I am
getting the last document (Directions) I saved. It's
listed as Document 1 and if I "X" it out, Document 2 comes
up not blank but with Directions. So far, I've
highlighted and deleted the text in order to have a blank
docoment, but I don't know how this happened and don't
know how to correct it. H..E..L..P!
