Blank subjet lines

Tony Smart

Can someone possibly point me to an asnwer to these
questions?

1. How to apply a rule to an email that has a blank
subject line. i.e. move it to the deleted folder.

or

2. Bounce the message back to the sender.

I've read the post for the VBA to not let you send with a
blank line, but that to me, would mean I would have to go
to all computers and set this up. Or is there a better way
to get people in our organization to stop sending with
blank subject lines?

Thank you for any help you can give me

Tony

To detect a blank Subject, think about it in reverse. What does a non-blank
Subject line have? Some characters in it. So check for the absence of
those characters.

Apply this rule after the message arrives
move it to the Junk folder (or [permanently] delete)
and mark it as read
except if the subject contains 'a' or ... 'z' or '0' or ... '9'
stop processing more rules

You simply check if the Subject has any alphabetic or numeric character in
it.

Good logic, I like it. PLEASE do not bounce the emails back to the sender.
Many of those with blank subjects are spam or other nasties. Just permanent
delete them like they deserve. Bouncing these messages back only increase
the traffic on an already clogged Internet. The last stat I heard was close
to 50% of all e-mail is unsolicited mail. Let's not add unnecessary mail tot
his mess.

True. Never bounce or in any way respond to or click on any link in a spam
message. It is rare, but the spammer may use a valid e-mail address or
domain but it may just be a harvester. You replying to their crap or
clicking on a link to unsubscribe simply tells the spammer that your e-mail
address is valid *and* actively inuse, making it much more valuable to them
to abuse even more or sell it off.

A mad killer foaming at the mouth comes banging on your door with bloody
meat cleaver in hand and rattles, "Delivery Man". You're on the other side
of the door looking at him through the one-way peephole but cannot be seen
inside (i.e., no windows). He bangs some more and says, "Candygram."
Foolish you responds, "Nobody's here." Well, duh, now he knows you are
there.

Don't use rules to bounce spam. Don't use options in anti-spam software,
like Mailwasher, to bounce non-delivery messages, either. Don't acknowledge
the spam ever arrived.
