Blank screen after XP SP2 upgrade

I upgraded to XP SP2 on a IBM Aptiva 2171-79G using a IBM C72 display
(NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64). All was fine while it does its restart after
SP2 was installed.

However, switched on the PC this morning and get the countdown screen as
normal, then get the windows XP screen loading, and after about 5 seconds
the screen goes blank. It sounds like the PC is still booting up, but the
display stays BLANK. I have tried the boot up in SAFE MODE and this works ok
and the display is fine.

Any anyone had this ? Does XP SP2 overwrite display drivers ? Any one got
any ideas what it can be / how to fix it ?

I have got over problem by backing out the SP2 upgrade, using the system
restore utility, but like to get SP2 installed on my PC.
 
try removing the display drivers in safe mode and rebooting? Then
reinstalling in normal mode.
