Blank folder list???

15 minutes ago I decided to follow the received email - and installed this
shining new Windows add-on called Windows Live Mail Desktop. It took a while
as it had to import some 200MB of messages and 15 accounts; but:

As soon as I opened it, I saw nothing - apart from nice bluie frames around
the place where supposedly messages and folders should be. Nothing else.
After some guesses I removed filters, clicked "View local folders", and
finally was able to see my messages...

1. Now, is there any way to see the FOLDERS as well? At this moment, the
white vertical space to the left of my screen - I guess this should be the
folder list - is virtually empty/blank; and there is no way I populate it
with the folders. Anyone here having the same problem?

2. How to open the address book which, I suppose, has come with WLMD?

Thanks for any hints,

kacper

Open the registry to this key with the Mail Desktop Beta closed:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2592889828-4208865303-1639956936-1006\Software\Microsoft\Windows
Live Mail Desktop Beta <note that the GUID may differ, but is a big,
long number>

Look in the right hand column for "Tree" and change its value from 0 to
1.
Exit Registry Editor and reopen Mail Desktop Beta. You should now see
your
Folder List in the left hand pane.

Hi Jim,

I just installed WLMD and I wanted to follow-up on the second part of "k999"
question. Is there an address book in WLMD beta?

Right now, it uses only the contact information for the account which you
use to set it up (which is a Hotmail or Passport account). It does not use
the WAB file but that may change. If you open Help, search for contacts,
and the following information should appear:

Organize contacts with Windows Live Messenger
Contacts for Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta are provided by Windows Live
Messenger. You must have Messenger installed on your computer to use
contacts and the Address Book (A list of contacts, containing the names,
addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of each of your contacts.
Mail Desktop Beta uses the Messenger contacts list of the primary Mail
Desktop Beta account.) with Mail Desktop Beta. With Messenger, you can add
new contacts, sort your contacts, and organize them into groups.

From what I can see there is NO "address book" per se. WLMD uses your
"Messenger Contacts" as an address book.

Jim, thanks for the confirmation. I noticed when I clicked on "Messenger
Contacts" located at the bottom of the page of WLMD, my Windows Live
Messenger opened.

Thanks for the feedback, and as I noted, the Help file, while not complete,
does answer many questions such as this.
