Blank emails

When I open Windows Mail, my emails come up as they should, but I've also got
several 'blank' emails each time with no sender, no subject, and no content
(at least that can be displayed in WM). Any ideas/assistance would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

We'd really need to look at the headers of the email message in question to
have a clue. Is Knology scanning your messages and perhaps deleting
content? Have you asked them?

I get these, too, but I also get them in Outlook Express. I just delete
them and don't worry about it.

That's the strange thing...they come through with absolutely no headers, no
addressee information, and no body. I'll check with Knology to see if they
know of any potential cause on their end. According to a later reply,
someone got them in OE too, so maybe they're just an existing fluke. I just
don't remember them (at least not in this quantity) in the current system.

Thanks,
Brian

I find that all my saved Sent messages appear blank and to unknown addressee,
but if I go to normal Hotmail, the message and addressee is still intact

Several possible causes and therefor several possible fixes:
1. Go to Start | Run and type
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
and press <Enter>
If this doesn't work carry out step 6 and then repeat this step.
2. Go to Tools | Options | Read | Fonts and set Western (ISO) as the
default.
3. Clear Temporary Internet Files and the Temp folder.
4. Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus.
5. Someone else reported that re-installing OE using the last method in
this article fixed the problem:
How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378
Method 2 works on earlier versions of Windows.
6. Eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem try step one
(regsvr32 inetcomm.dll) again.

Hi Dilly: Those are usually caused by the sender having an antivirus
program scan in/outgoing mail. I just delete them via a message rule, i.e.,
where the From does *not* contain a, e, i, o, or u, mark it read, and delete
it and stop processing more rules. Works well and I never see the stupid
things. I have another similar rule for blank Subject, so usually one or
the other will get them.

If you use an antivirus program to scan incoming and outgoing mail, disable
it and see if the problem is fixed. Email scanning is a waste of time since
your basic AV program (if updated daily) will protect if you should ever
attempt to open or save an infected file. It consumes processing time,
causes delays in sending, and has been known to cause users to lose all of
their stored mail messages.

But, it helps keep Steve in beer money with his myriad of programs for
recovery <G>.
