i'm having issues where everytime i try opening up a new document, there is already a paragraph in Document1 or Document2. Doesn't matter how many times i try opening a new document, there is always the same paragraph. i tried looking for it saved as a template somewhere so i can delete it but i can't find it. does anyone know how i can get rid of this paragraph? or at least have it blank when i open the application? i tried uninstalling and reinstalling-- it doesn't work.

dear garfield-n-odie, i did as your advised and tried searching just like the website told me. i clicked the 'show hidden file' button but even then, nothing shows up in the search area. i tired normal.dot and even a phrase in the text. is there anything else you would advise me to do?
thanks!

Make sure that the search scope is not limited to a particular folder. You
will need to search the whole of the hard disk. Word will not run without
there being a normal.dot file so it MUST be there somewhere.

Normal.dot is a hidden system file (on recent Word versions) and it will be
found in the folder designated at tools > options > file locations > user
templates. You will need to set Windows Explorer to display hidden and
system files in order to locate it.

graham and doug,

i did as you both advised. i 'unhid hidden files'. i also searched the whole drive. it's still not showing up. is there a store that i would be able to get professional help? thanks.

p.s. i was unable to get to user templates. but i searched around in my program files > microsoft office > templates. once i get to templates, a bunch of default formats show up (i.e. professionaly fax, letter wizard, resume wizard, etc.)

That's the wrong template folder. The one you are looking for is the one
listed for "User Templates" on the File Locations tab of Tools | Options.
