freeAfter inserting a blank CD into the CD drive Windows XP does not
recognise that a blank disc has been inserted. I have tried various different
makes of CD's but it still fails to asknowledge that one has been inserted.
It will recognise a music CD and go on to play it if asked. It was working up
to now. Would the updated WINDOWS pack recently installed have something to
do with this.
On clicking the CD drive in MY COMPUTER and going into properties, it shows
as though the drive is empty by showing "free space 0 bytes and used space 0
bytes.
Any answers please?

Perhaps the laser is dirty; the ability to read music CDs shows that the
drive is working fine. However, writing a CD requires a different laser.
Hence a likely cause is a dirty write laser.
Get one of the laser cleaner disks at your local store.
