Blackberry email messages received are marked Read

I am running Windows 2003 Server with Exchange 2003 and have a POP3 email account that is integrated with the BlackBerry Web Client. Whenever my account receives a new email message it is automatically marked as Read in Outlook.

There is a Microsoft KB article that deals with this (329970, Messages Are Marked as Read After You Download Headers for more information) but it is for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

Any ideas how to fix this for Exchange 2003?

Robert,

Did you find a fix for this?
The CEO of my company is having a problem that sounds similar.
We have Exchnage 2003 on Windows 2003.
He is on Windows XP Pro SP2 and Outlook 2003 (as Exchange client and not
POP3).
He is using BlackBerry Web Client.
He is receiving messages in Outlook automatically set as Read.

I had him change the Reading Pane settings to not auto mark as read; this
didn't fix it.

Please help me. Thanks.

I don't know how BlackBerry Web Client works, but if it accesses messages
on the Exchange server via POP3 they will be marked as read. If this is
the case, it's an Exchange issue rather than an Outlook one - you might
post to the Exchange group to see if there's a workaround.

Jeff,
Thanks for the response. I found out that the messages come in as Unread
but within a certain time period they automatically turn to Read (all of them
at once). Would this still be an Exchange issue?

What happens if the Blackberry sync is disabled - do messages still get
marked as unread? If so, then it may be an Outlook issue (though I'm not
sure what would be doing it). But I'll bet that the "certain time period"
before the messages are marked as read is the time period between
Blackberry syncs...

BB sync disabled, huh. I'll have to give that a shot. Unfortunately,
because it's the CEO who's having the problem, I can't exactly take his
laptop and try whatever I want when I want. I can't wait until the day I can
take off this Help Desk hat and hand it over to the "new guy".

Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully I'll be able to try this out today.
