black screen

Sometimes when I come home from work, my computer has a black screen. I can
not wake it up. My blue button on the tower is flashing. The only way to
use my computer is to re-boot. When re-booting, I get the blue hp screen,
then a black screen with the currsor at the top left. It stays on this black
screen for a real long time. What is it doing and how do I make this process
go faster?

When exactly does the black screen appear, during the last part of POST of
after the Microsoft scrolling, but before the welcome screen or desktop. If
the later, it is cleaning up the mess from the hard shutdown. If the
former, you have BIOS settings that are slowing things down.

when i leave for work, i have already done what i needed to do and its on the
log in screen. when i get back home is black. can really answer your
question. would this happen if my monitor was disconnected and reconnected?
