Black screen when pc wakes up

Hi when I wake up my eMachine t5234 by hitting return, it only displays a
black screen. I know the monitor is on because when I turn off/on the power
switch it displays the Acer logo but then goes black again. I have to
restart my computer using the power button and then it displays properly. It
was previously waking up fine. Any known fix?

I had this problem ONCE for some reason, and pressing the right keys to
switch between monitor displays worked for me. On my HP Dv6000 its the
function key with F4 to switch monitor displays, like when you plug in a
lead to show the laptop screen on the TV. Strange that this happened to me
once, and fixed it with this.

I had power settings at display 15, hd 20, sleep 25, hibernate 60. turned off
hibernate and made other tweaks u suggest, then clicked my power button on
start menu (set to sleep) to put it to sleep, but when I tried to wake it up
it again had a black screen. Could this be a USB mouse issue? I unchecked
the box on mouse to have it wake the computer as suggested in another forum.
I am using return key to wake computer now and it wakes normally but won't
display without power button restart.

Go to Advance Power Settings.
Set hard drive to turn off a minute or 2 before sleep.
Set Hybrid and Hibernate modes to "Never/Off"
Under USB settings select "Disable"
Under Multimedia select "Allow ....."

eMachines phone tech support did a lot of searching and found it is a known
issue related to SP1 and is being worked on now. they suggested a complete
reinstall of the OS with latest OS updates, which sounded a lot like getting
another SP to me. Well I have sleep back, but I notice that all of the
updates have been downloaded except SP1 so I guess I can expect to lose my
sleep when it installs. Annoying.

Instead of manually enabling sleep, let your new settings do it and see if
that solves the problem.
