Black screen on booting

I have a Sony laptop Pentium 3 with 256K of RAM running Windows 2000
Professional. When the computer boots, I get a message that NTOSKRNL.EXE is
either corrupt or missing. If I keep rebooting, I eventually succeed but my
laptop TFT screen turns first white and than immediately black as soon as the
splash W2K screen disappears. If I have an external monitor attached to the
laptop, I can use the computer after the boot is completed even with the TFT
screen all black. If I attach the external monitor after the TFT screen
turned black, no picture appears on the external monitor and I have to reboot.

I upgraded Bios and video driver from the Sony site. I do not know if the
bios update was successful or not (presently the video bios version on the
laptop is U0IS2¬_51) but the video driver update failed to change the present
version of the video driver which is 5.12.1.2703. I have Intel 82815 Graphics
controller in the laptop and tried to install the most recent version of the
driver for the controller (downloaded from the Intel site) but the
installation failed due to a “severe errorâ€. Finally I played with the
various refresh rates and screen resolution settings on the external monitor
but there was no change on reboot.
I checked the contents of the minidump file created when the computer does
not boot properly with dumpchk. The first section of the crash dump analysis
is displayed below, the rest of the sections did not appear to have an error.

Thank you Bjorn.
I tried various things suggessted in the articles but still have the
following problems:
The Sony laptop reports various errors when you boot up after it was shut
down overnight, but if you wait till it warms up, it will boot as follows:

It does not boot up in safe mode. There is a blue screen with the message
Stop: 0x0000001E KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED or sometimes there is a message
Stop: 0x0000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

When it boots normally, the screen after the initial splash screen Windows
2000
turns white and then black. It stays black. If an external monitor is hooked
up to the laptop BEFORE the boot process begins, Windows boots normally on
the external monitor.

I cannot install certain Windows updates from the Microsoft Windows Update
site and cannot run some programs, i.e. c:\Program Files\erunt\erunt.exe.

Msinfo32 reports the following IRQ hardware conflicts:
Msinfo32 report [Conflicts / Sharing]

What do I do next, Bjorn?

Check and recheck your video adapter driver and BIOS. If all seems correct,
get in contact with Sony, in order to check your hardware, and especially
your video adapter, better.

Also, check your BIOS for any setting that might delay booting for a second
or two, for instance an extensive memory test, in order to get your
hardware to initialize properly before it tries to load the operating
system from your hard disk.

Your IRQ sharing seems normal to me.

Erunt.exe? Lars Hederer might help you with that question, if you ask him.
