Black screen of death!

Hi there,
has anyone else experienced a blank screen in Vista? I've had
it a couple of times now after leaving the computer and coming back to it, I
found a black screen and no response from the keyboard or mouse. A reboot
was the only way to fix it. It was as though the default screen saver had
crashed or something.

I get that because my monitor loses it's timing. In those cases the solution
is to turn the monitor on and off. I doubt that's your problem though,
probably more related to the machine crashing when the display goes on
standby. Try updating your motherboard and graphics drivers or fully
disabling ACPI power management in the BIOS to test this.

I have seen symptoms like this on 2 different Vista systems, and if I go
through the motions to unlock the computer [ctrl+alt+del] and type in
password, the display comes back on. Very weird. Anyone know of a fix?
I've only seen it with the computer locked.
