system rebooted and right after the Windows XP screen with
the green bar the screen goes black and it just stays
there. I have no clue whats wrong... Here are my system

More RAM, bigger hard-drive for a start.

How long do you let it sit on that screen. That machine need more ram so it
will take a long time for windows xp to start.
The other question I ask you is how long has 98 been installed on that
machine and were you have problems before upgrade to xp?
Your best bet is to format that hd install 98 and directlly after 98
installtion is done to install xp upgrade.

William, you are giving bad information on a clean install of XP Upgrade.
It is not necessary to install 98 to use the XP Upgrade CD.

To install the upgrade version of XP, boot from the Windows XP Upgrade CD.
Follow instructions on the screen to do a clean install (remove the previous
partition and create new) of XP over the existing operating system. When XP
requests verification of previous license, place the 98 CD in the drive. It
will spin for about 30 seconds and then ask for the XP CD again. Put in the
XP CD and continue the installation.
