I am having issues when booting Windows XP. It acts like it is going to
boot, but then goes to a black screen and just hangs up. F8 at start up will
not work. I can not get to safe mood settings. Unfortunatley I can not find
my Windows XP disk. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I would recover my
system?

mood settings aside!

I think your having hardware errors, time to take it to a repair shop!
sorry to have spoiled your mood!

Check the connections: data cables, power connections, and,
ESPECIALLY, the memory chips. If the memory chip(s) is (are) not
seated properly, you will get the symptoms you are reporting.

NB

"goes to a black screen" -what happens if you try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to
select Task Manager?

Try booting with only keyboard, mouse and monitor connected.

Hope this helps.

I am getting calls from several users that they began getting the "Black
screen after boot" problem. It started yesterday 12/14/08. Definately not
hardware - too many reports. Corrupted Windows Update? Virus?

My computer has the same problem (Windows XP Home) and it also appeared on
December 14th. I posted a separate question about the problem before I found
this thread. Anybody have information on the cause?

Thanks!

You did the right thing the first time and the wrong thing this time. You
*do* need to make a separate post of your own and not hijack someone else's
thread. That way both posters can get the help they need.

Please find your standalone post and see the detailed reply I gave you
there. If you have further questions, keep them in that thread. I won't be
monitoring this one.
